The competitive urge is too strong, and dictates winning at all costs. Although victory is in hand, it does not feel like the satisfaction of true success. There is a hollowness to it. The celebration of that victory only pumps the ego and alienates others. It is a precarious crowning, for others view the ascension as a threat to their own success and happiness, and so they snip and cut and try to tear down, even as the momentary glory is being celebrated. Perhaps it is better to pick the battles, and winning is not the only thing of importance.
