D E F I A N C E NO MORE. That’s the theme of this Dance. When circumstances feel like prisons and the world seems to conspire against you, Defiance breaks through and carries you away. This is the spirit that will not be broken, the gravity-defiant leap that strikes beauty from pain.
Hurled against constraint, Defiance takes the Passions we are told to fear and then turns them toward constructive ends. It refuses to be demeaned, ignored or shoved aside. Defiance shoves back, takes the stage, and drives us toward new and powerful heights. This is a proud Dance, born of desperation and performed against a backdrop of hopelessness. And yet, despite the cracked stage and smog-choked sky, this Dancer’s faith transforms oppression into art.
